We want to respond to student writing in meaningful yet efficient ways, but the time and energy we put into this work can be daunting.   • Peers Supporting Peers: Equity, Affinity, and Thriving

This support can come in many forms, from one-on-one friendships and mentoring to affinity and accountability groups. It is also essential within the context of faculty meetings, committee work, and group negotiation. This webinar will foreground the goal of equity as participants consider the literature on supporting colleagues in all of their faculty roles.   • Improve online classroom communication using solution-seeking strategies of Appreciative Inquiry

    Tuesday, September 29, 2020 | 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Facilitators: Linda Stewart and Cody Wehlan In this interactive webinar, participants will learn how to integrate effective communication and solution-seeking strategies of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) in both face-to-face and online class environments. AI processes emphasize mindfulness of rhetoric and question-framing to promote positive, constructive dialogues that de-emphasize ‘problems’ in favor of seeking ‘solutions.’ Participants learn to integrate AI principles in their classrooms by practicing and developing their own AI approaches for the context of their classrooms. Also known as Appreciative Circles, group discussions framed by AI principles are suitable for discussing classroom content as well as addressing classroom expectations and behavior. Through the inclusion of AI principles, participants can both role-model and engage students in how to establish and maintain constructive dialogues and collaborative online classrooms.  –  September 29, 2020

  • TILT Your Class Toward Success: Transparent Assignment Design for Online Classes

Students do not always have the skills and ability to determine this, though, particularly in the relative autonomy of the online course environment. Writing assignments with a clear purpose, that explains the task in full, and provides the criteria on which students will be evaluated is so important.
