Powerful Storytelling: How To Make an Effective Apology
Wednesday, October 12, 2022 | 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
Event Type: Workshop
Location: CETL Lab, 3211 Campus Loop Road
Facilitator: Michele DiPietro
Nobody’s perfect, therefore mistakes are part of everybody’s story. When that happens, it behooves us to apologize, so that our story does not end with the mistep but continues as one of making amends. And yet, the vulnerability required to own our mistakes with our students or our colleagues can be daunting. The news is replete with performative apologies that do not take responsibility and further alienate the intended recipients. In this workshop we will delve into the literature on apologies, consider the elements of a successful one, practice composing one, and experience the healing power of a heartfelt apology.
