Join us to explore the guidance offered by The Racial Healing Handbook: Practical Activities to Help You Challenge Privilege, Confront Systemic Racism, and Engage in Collective Healing, by Anneliese A. Singh, Ph.D., LPC. The workbook provides valuable step-by-step prompts for self-reflection, engagement, and change-agency. In their book, The Leadership Challenge, Kouzes and Posner state, ”When you create a climate of trust, you create an environment that allows people to contribute freely and to innovate. You nurture an open exchange of ideas and an honest discussion of issues. You motivate people to go beyond compliance and inspire them to reach for the best in themselves. You foster the belief that people can rely on you to do what’s in everyone’s best interests" (2017, p.200). Using case studies (Ambrose et al. 2010), we will discuss and identify ways in which we can plan and facilitate discussions to enhance critical thinking to promote a growth mindset. Join us and your colleagues for an ongoing onboarding community called Reflect, Connect, and Learn. These monthly meetings are designed to provide a full year of onboarding support for faculty in their first year at KSU. This first meeting of the virtual series will connect participants with near peers who have just completed their first year at KSU and have highly relevant and timely lessons learned. It will also provide space for asking questions that have arisen in the first month on the job. This is an opportunity to reflect on how things are going, build relationships with other new faculty, get those burning questions answered, and learn new things. – September 28, 2021

In this interactive webinar, we will examine several ways to visually represent our teaching journeys to enhance critical reflection for ourselves and our current or future students. Drawing from the visual representations in “On the road to becoming a professor” (Nyquist, J. D. 1999), we will employ a range of visual representations to create and annotate our teaching and learning maps. Finally, we will share and discuss these maps with our colleagues to explore and examine our teacher identities so our critical friends can “help us notice things we’ve missed” and suggest possibilities for growth (Brookfield, S. This workshop provides an overview of three fundamental High-impact practices (HIPs): undergraduate research, internships, and community-engaged service learning. Students who participate in HIPS demonstrate greater persistence and appreciation for diversity. Applications for internal awards and funds often require compelling narratives. The most successful award narratives illustrate for readers both the candidate’s accomplishments and the quality and significance of those achievements in light of award criteria. This webinar will guide participants in the multi-step process of analyzing award criteria, reflecting on individual qualifications, and articulating achievements in ways that are rhetorically engaging and persuasive to award reviewers. – September 21, 2021

When our foundation is strong, the winds of change and uncertainty do little to faze us. The first chakra presides to the basic aspects of our foundation, the things that ground us, the subroutines that run in the background while we pursue higher purposes (Duhigg 2014). When the root chakra is out of balance, we might feel less confident in our right to take up space, or conversely, too set in our ways to adapt to change. In this workshop we will unpack the mechanics of the first chakra and generate strategies for a healthy and solid grounding as the foundation to the rest of the work on the other chakras. – September 17, 2021
