Employing active learning techniques does not automatically produce high quality learning, nor does it necessarily contribute to a productive academic mindset in students. While a large body of research shows that incorporating active learning techniques into the classroom can significantly improve student achievement of learning outcomes, how can we use it to produce a productive academic mindset as well? In this webinar, we will explore how we can create productive academic mindsets by engaging students in ways that really make a difference. Specifically, we will consider three components identified in the research that teachers can influence student mindset in the classroom: emotional engagement, cognitive-emotional engagement, and behavioral engagement. – January 22, 2020

The Annual Review Document and Faculty Performance Agreement can be laborious and time intensive to create, depending on departmental guidelines. While this is a required process, it can also be an opportunity to think strategically about what we have accomplished in the past year and what our goals are for the next year – and about the story we want to tell. In this workshop we will explore strategies for documenting your effectiveness in the Teaching, Research, and Service areas; demonstrating progress toward your mutually agreed goals; laying the foundations for your next multilevel review, and situating yourself in an optimal position for negotiations with your chair. KSU's It's About Engagement! initiative encourages faculty to incorporate High Impact Practices in their courses. More specifically, faculty are being asked to provide greater opportunities for students to engage in undergraduate research, internships, and service-learning. In support of these efforts, we invite you to join us to discuss the benefits and challenges of conducting service-learning courses. This interactive workshop will describe how "service-learning" is defined for the It's About Engagement! initiative, discuss ways to incorporate it into your course(s), and introduce the resources and support KSU has in place to help. Veteran faculty members will also share their experiences of including service-learning in their courses. “It’s about engagement!” is the university student success initiative，centered around the three High-Impact Teaching Practices of Undergraduate Research，Internships，and Service Learning. After a successful R&D stage，culminating with the SACSCOC visit in Spring 2019，it enters its active phase in Fall 2019. The initiative is designed to be transformational at a capillary level，with chairs playing pivotal roles in their schools and departments. Dr. Scott Reese will present the vision for this initiative，highlight at least 2 important roles Chairs will have to play，and share the tools associated with those roles (institutional definitions and frameworks).
