This workshop will help graduate student teachers and KSU instructors design classes in which all participants (students and instructors alike) contribute to accessible course environments. Writing and designing for accessibility (such as alt text for images, captions for video, transcripts for audio, and structured headings for documents) is an important part of developing an inclusive course community. Furthermore, it helps students prepare to write accessibly in their future careers and professional lives. Participants will explore resources for teaching academic web accessibility, then consider how to adapt these materials for their own disciplines, course content, and teaching styles. – February 24, 2022

The third-eye chakra presides over the function of seeing beyond what the eyes can see. This includes seeing through things and seeing things that have not manifested yet. For this reason, a healthy third-eye chakra is capable of generating a compelling vision for our professional life and allows us to blaze our own trail (Debowski 2012). In this workshop we will unpack the mechanics of the third-eye chakra and introduce tools to create a fulfilling vision for our professional life. – February 18, 2022

Regardless, scholarly productivity requires us to be resilient as we revise, resubmit, or go back to the drawing board. This interactive webinar will provide keys to resilience in scholarship and creative activity. Participants will be guided through individual reflection on their experiences with reviewer feedback and will leave the session with a concrete plan for future resilience and increased productivity. – February 16, 2022

Redesigning just two assignments in your course can have a big impact in your classes. Research shows that students are more likely to succeed when faculty provide them with transparent assignment descriptions. A transparent assignment includes just three parts: the purpose, the task, and the criteria. Do you have an assignment that students regularly struggle with? Has it been more difficult to get the level of work you desire from your students after moving your course online? Bring an assignment with you to this interactive webinar and you will have the opportunity to revise it applying the TILT (Transparency in Learning and Teaching) framework. Come prepared to participate! Workshop attendees will break into groups for a peer feedback session and everyone will leave with a draft of their TILTed assignment. – February 15, 2022

Multiple colleges at KSU have begun formally supporting the peer coaching process. This workshop is designed to support those efforts and expand participation across KSU. Peer coaching is a formative process conducted with another instructor to provide feedback about teaching in areas you have targeted for improvement in your classroom. It is specific, organized, constructive, collaborative, non-threatening, confidential, and focused on mutual benefits. The process generates valuable feedback on classroom performance, introduces participants to new educational practices, models the value of assessment to the learners in the classroom, and quickly propagates ‘best practices’ within a community of educators. In this workshop, participants will learn about successful peer coaching efforts from the literature, discuss the value of various steps in the peer coaching process, and practice providing peer coaching feedback using the workshop context itself. – February 10, 2022

Undergraduate research (UR) is a high-impact educational practice that leads to deep, meaningful learning for students (Kuh, 2008). This workshop will focus on how faculty can engage students by mentoring them to be undergraduate researchers, how to work with teams of researchers, and how to embed meaningful UR experiences into your courses so that they can be counted as part of the It's About Engagement (IAE) initiative. In particular, findings and resources developed from last year's two IAE Undergraduate Research Faculty Learning Communities studying UR in the context of the pandemic and via a case study of the KSU Food Forest will be incorporated into the session so that you can benefit from their work in your own planning. – February 09, 2022
