Acknowledging Grief, Loss, and Trauma: A Critical Conversation About Adapting During Uncertain Times

Tuesday, September 20, 2022 | 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Event Type: Workshop
Location: CETL Lab, 3211 Campus Loop Road
Facilitators: Chinasa Elue and Linda Stewart

As we enter a new academic year, we must create space to discuss the myriad ways we have had to adapt and navigate the complexities of these past couple of years. Grief, loss, and trauma have affected many of the members of our campus community. We need to create space to talk about our lived experiences and acknowledge that we have changed. During these unprecedented times, this acknowledgement is crucial in starting anew with care and intentionality. The neuroscientist Mays Imad cautions that we not only recognize trauma in our students, but also in ourselves by connecting faculty with one another (2021). During this workshop, we will discuss how to adapt to uncertainty and identify steps we can take to build additional support for ourselves and our students.
