Working with Qualitative Data in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Monday, February 22nd, 2021 | 3:30 p.m. - 4:20 p.m.

Event Type: Webinar
Facilitators: Hillary Steiner and Kelleigh Trepanier, Burruss Institute of Public Service

In SoTL and other forms of educational research, we often turn to qualitative data to gain a richer picture of student learning. In this workshop, co-hosted by CETL Scholarly Teaching and the Burruss Institute, we will explore various sources for qualitative data in higher education, including student written assignments, interviews and focus groups, and open-ended surveys. We will also explore thematic analysis (Nowell, et. al, 2017) as a useful and easy-to-learn method for approaching qualitative data analysis.
