Creating an Inclusive Climate for Learning
Thursday, February 4th, 2021 | 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Event Type: Webinar
Facilitator: Mandy McGrew
Research supports the idea that students who feel acknowledged and respected in their learning environment are better able to focus their attention on the course content and activities, and perform on assessments. Strategies to develop an inclusive environment and a warm class climate face-to-face are a helpful starting point, but to create an explicitly centralizing climate in our online classes we must be intentional and deliberate in our inclusion of practices designed specifically for this purpose. In this session, we will review the research on inclusivity in the online classroom, introduce a variety of online activities and virtual communication strategies designed to promote inclusion of all students, and share our experiences in building our own inclusive classroom communities.
