  • Academic Bullying: Understanding and transforming the landscape

    Tuesday,October 3,2017 - 9:30am to 11:00am Facilitators: Michele DiPietro and Jennifer Clarkson This workshop is for Deans,Chairs and other University Administrators. National data indicates that academic bullying happens more often than we would like to admit,and can be relentless,resulting in stress,burnout,poor teaching quality,and decreased productivity for its victims. Institutions with high levels of academic bullying may find it difficult to attract and retain new faculty members. In this workshop,we will examine the existing research on academic and workplace bullying in order to understand the various forms of incivility,bullying,and mobbing,and to learn to recognize their symptoms. Representatives from Legal Affairs and Faculty Affairs will also be present to help chairs and directors brainstorm strategies to create more welcoming cultures,at both the individual and institutional level,and to deal effectively with situations as soon as they arise.  –  October 03, 2017

  • Facilitating Online Courses

    Wednesday,April 12,2017 - 12:00am to Wednesday,April 26,2017 - 12:00am Facilitators: Traci Stromie and Josie Baudier One of the factors that affect the quality of online courses is instructor facilitation. There are many aspects of facilitation that contribute to a successful online course. This workshop is designed for faculty members who are teaching a course they developed or one a colleague created. We will look at why it is important to focus on course facilitation,what successful facilitation looks like,ways to encourage a sense of community,time management strategies,and how to ensure instructor presence in an online course. This workshop would be appropriate for anyone getting ready to facilitate an online course,or in the beginning stages of doing this. This workshop will be delivered completely asychronously over the course of two weeks in Desire 2 Learn. Information will be emailed to your kennesaw.edu address closer to the start date. Working knowledge of D2L is required prior to taking this workshop.  –  April 12, 2017
