Research supports the argument that students who feel acknowledged and respected in their learning environment are better able to focus their attention on the course content and activities, and perform on assessments. Strategies to develop an inclusive environment and a warm class climate face-to-face are a helpful starting point, but to create an explicitly centralizing climate in our online classes we must be intentional and deliberate in our inclusion of practices designed specifically for this purpose. In this session, we will review the research on inclusivity in the online classroom, introduce a variety of online activities and communication strategies designed to promote inclusion of all students, and share our experiences in building our own inclusive classroom communities. – August 26, 2021

Following years of field-tested strategies by Wendy Laura Belcher in her book, Writing Your Journal Article in Twelve Weeks: A Guide to Academic Publishing Success, the group will be supported by writing and revision activities and regular check-ins collaboration with group members to promote motivation while writing at home. – August 24, 2021

We will discuss aspects of intentional design and facilitation of transformative learning, explicitly in connection with KSU's It’s About Engagement initiative but also as they apply to transformative learning in general. KSU's It's About Engagement initiative fosters learning through participation in high impact experiences in undergraduate research, internships/co-ops, and service learning. It’s hard to thrive in a place when only one one of our facets (i.e. our intellect in academia) is privileged. The chakra system from Eastern Philosophy is a theory of the self that posits 7 major energies that make up each person (symbolically located along the spine from the gut to the heart to the head) and argues that a healthy expression of all 7 chakras in harmony with each other is what leads to liberation. This workshop is an introduction to the 7 chakras, and it opens the yearlong series focusing on strategies to waken each chakra one by one for a fulfilling professional life. – August 20, 2021
