  • Resilient Pedagogy: Course Design for Flexible Delivery that can Withstand Disruption

Monday,February 8th,2021 | 2:30 p.m. - 3:20 p.m. Facilitator: Mandy McGrew “The goal [of resilient pedagogy] is to make teaching as disruption-proof as possible,” says Joshua Eyler. Since March of 2020,faculty and students have faced continued uncertainty about the context in which we will be teaching and learning. The pivot from face-to-face instruction in the spring and the rotational, hybrid, and virtual environments many faculty and students have found themselves in this fall have many of us wondering how to best plan for the future. Developing a resilient pedagogy may be the solution. Rather than only planning what content we need to cover, resilient pedagogy focuses on the interactions that facilitate learning and asks faculty to imagine how those interactions will work in any possible learning environment. Join this session to learn more about resilient pedagogy, view models of resilient teaching, and plan how you might apply these strategies to your own teaching.  –  February 08, 2021

  • Creating an Inclusive Climate for Learning

Date: Thursday,February 4th,2021 | 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Facilitator: Mandy McGrew Research supports the idea that students who feel acknowledged and respected in their learning environment are better able to focus their attention on the course content and activities, and perform on assessments. Strategies to develop an inclusive environment and a warm class climate face-to-face are a helpful starting point, but to create an explicitly centralizing climate in our online classes we must be intentional and deliberate in our inclusion of practices designed specifically for this purpose. In this session,we will review the research on inclusivity in the online classroom, introduce a variety of online activities and virtual communication strategies designed to promote inclusion of all students, and share our experiences in building our own inclusive classroom communities.  –  February 04, 2021
