Faculty Mindset Matters: Strategies for Developing a Growth Mindset

October 1, 2019 | 11:00 - 12:15pm

CETL Lab | Kennesaw, GA

Facilitator: Traci Stromie

The link between student success and growth mindset has been established in the literature. Dweck (2008) discovered that students with growth mindset are more persistent in the face of failures and challenges, and pursue the learning process rather than focusing on grades. Shifting the lens on mindset, a recent study from Indiana University (IU) found that students attending classes of self-identified growth mindset faculty performed better than students who were taught by fixed mindset faculty (Canning et al., 2019). Your approach to challenges, mindset about intelligence, and persistence in the face of setbacks can impact your own productivity, as well. This workshop will explore mindset in different areas, identify strategies for enhancing a growth mindset that can be carried into the classroom, and how mindset can impact productivity.
